Oil bearing operating under high speed and light load requires large oil content and high porosity; Oil bearing operating at low speed and large load requires high strength and low porosity. Oil bearing materials are mainly porous metal and porous plastic two categories. Oil bearing made of porous metal can be divided into iron base and copper base according to different matrix materials. The bearing capacity of the former is increased, but it is easy to glue with the steel shaft; The latter allows higher speed but is more expensive. The porous plastics used in oil-bearing are thermosetting plastics, such as nylon and phenolic resin. Porous plastic oil bearing appearance is very soft, not easy to damage the journal, allow a large coaxiality tolerance, but the strength and stiffness than porous metal oil bearing is low, the load is reduced, the thermal stability and thermal conductivity is poor. In order to improve this shortcoming of porous plastics, the thickness of the plastic layer can be reduced as far as possible, and the metal backing can be used to support the plastic thin layer.
